Sir:-
I am directed by the Marquess of Salisbury to
transmit to you copy of a Note from the Swiss Minis-
ter at this Court, asking that letters of introduction
to the British officials at the places indicated may
be furnished in favour of Professor Schröter, Director
of the Botanical Museum of the Federal Polytechnical
School, who, accompanied by Monsieur Pernod, will make
a journey round the world for scientific purposes be-
tween the 20th of August next and the 1st of May, 1899.
I am to request that you will move Mr. Secretary
Chamberlain to inform the proper authorities at Hong-
Kong and Singapore of Professor Schröter's intended
visit to those places, with a view to his being grant-
ed every facility in furtherance of the object of his
tour.
